Henrik Mkhitaryan, 20 year old forward, became a real discovery of this season in Armenia. Being a leader of Pyunik he had deserved his transfer to Metallurg Donetsk in the middle of the year, and this December he was appreciated as the best player of Armenia.
Football genes
Henrik Mkhitaryan is a son of the famous forward in Armenia Hamlet Mkhitaryan who was the key player and forward of Pyunik in Soviet and post-Soviet epoch. His son continuers suitably the business of his father and gradually becomes a player on whom the coach may always rely. "Henrik plays a big role in our advance, - Vardan Minasyan the head coach of Pyunik said in first half of the season. – He is able to fulfil alone the result of the match. It is for him to score goals and more than half goals of our team are on his count". Anticipating things Mkhitaryan played 9 matches in Pyunik and kicked 11 goals.
Lack of confidence
"He took a great step, - the coach continued. – I like him to transfer to the stronger club and to play in better championship. It would be better for him and for national team of Armenia. Besides his football qualities he has a superior intellect". Football qualities of the talented player are called "irreproachable" by the coach but he sees one lack: "I feel his lack of confidence in the matches of the national team. But he has time and a necessary level to overcome it ".
Leader of leader team
After the first half of he season Mkhitaryan said: "Our team is the leader
of the championship but I can say that the lead is easy to yield. Though we won
practically all the matches of the first half, all the teams get ready for
matches against our team. Rivals try to show all their qualities in games against
the leader. Mika and Banants have good
players. Experienced coaches works in these teams so they may enter a
competition with Pyunik in struggle for gold medals". He was not wrong – only
in the end of the championship his team managed to take the lead over Mika and
become the first. And before the champion's title Pyunik won the Cup of Armenia
where the team overpowered Banants in the final thanks to the goal of
Mkhitaryan at last minute.
Life is studies
Mkhitaryan who was twenty last January does not think that he is an ideal and tries
to study on the field, during the match and after it: "During the match I
take aim at rival’s goal. I think that my the strongest side is a good vision
of field. More than one time I made goal
passes. But there is no end of perfection and one should constantly make
progress. The coach says that I have not enough of confidence? I agree, I must
work with it".
His dream is Arsenal
Ambitious football player gives himself a task to play on the highest level. Mkhitaryan dreams about Arsenal London: "The way of play of this team is liked by me more than others. Combinative, high-speed and attacking football is a trademark of The Gunners. Furthermore Arsène Wenger is one of the best coaches of the world and I like that he continuers to trust young players. I would like to play in this team some day ".
Transfer to Metallurg
Mkhitaryan’s dream has not been realized yet but his desire to play in stronger team come true. In summer the halfback came to Metallurg Donetsk. In spite of his age he became at once one of key players of the team and took part in all 16 matches of Metallurg in first half of the season. Mkhitaryan became the top goal-scorer of the team, he scored 7 matches – it is the 5th position in the championship of Ukraine.
Beginning of the way
Forward is also a leader of the junior team of Armenia: thanks to his perfect play the team won four points in two recent matches. Initially his only goal brought a drawn game in the match against Estonia and than his hat trick helped to rout Ireland - 4:1. In the end of December he was appreciated as the best Armenian football player of the year. Before no one was awarded this honour at the age of 20. There is a reason to believe that it is not the last advancement of the talented forward in his career.
